There are two concerts of note:

FIRST CONCERT:

Well, not really a concert, it is called First Annual Arbors Records Invitational Piano Jazz Party! WOW! It will be held at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort on Clearwater Beach - remember the March of Jazz Parties, same place. The concerts take place on Friday, January 16 and Saturday, January 17, 2009. (Note the year!) Concerts are scheduled for Friday, 7:00 PM - 12 and Saturday, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 12;00. All event ticket price $200.00 (No individual event tickets will be sold). Call 1-800-299-1930 for tickets. Seating is limited to 200 people at 20 tables of 10 each. A 10% discount will be given for tables of 10 reserving together. Seating will be assigned in order of reservations.

The line-up is as follows: Shelly Berg, Dick Hyman, Bernd Lhotzky, Louis Mazetier, Rossano Sportiello, Johnny Varro (pianos), Warren Vache (cornet); Ken Peplowski & Antii Sarpilla(reeds), John Allred (trombone), Bucky Pizzarelli & Howard Alden (guitars), Aaron Weinstein (violin), Nicki Parrott (bass), Ed Metz Jr. (Drums).

This is a party not to be missed!!!


SECOND CONCERT:

Chihiro Yamanaka will be back at Holley Hall on January 10, 2009, for the Sarasota Jazz Club. Look for more news on this one.

On August 11, 12, 13 and 14 of 2008, we will be producing two CDs for Macby Records in Japan. Macby Records is owned by Hedegi Katagai. The recording will take place at Audio Images in Bradenton, FL and the Engineers will be Gary Baldassari and Mike Badalamenti, using the latest recording techniques. We will be recording Michiko Ogawa backed by Phil Flanigan and Eddie Metz, Jr along with special guest, Harry Allen.

We have four new releases from Arbors Records this month. All of them are gems.
"The Soprano Summit in 1975 and More" is the title of the first CD. A double CD specially priced at $15.00. All tracks are previously un-issued. Some of the many musicians are Kenny Davern, Bob Wilber, Marty Grosz, George Duvivier, Conni Kay, Dick Wellstood, Bob Rosengarden, Ruby Braff, Wayne Wright and Fred Stoll. The delightful Becky Kilgore backed by Dave Frishberg doing all songs by Frank Loesser. It really doesn't get much better than this one. Becky is the consumate vocalist and Dave the most sympathetic accompanist. Arbors ARCD19356

The marvelous swinging group called Five Play is the final CD listed here. Five Play are comprised of five ladies from the big band DIVA. Both, of course, led by the gifted drummer Sherrie Maricle. It is always a joy to hear this group play, and play the can! Arbors ARCD19381
